Tuesday night’s game involving the Miami Heat and Washington Wizards will be talked about for years to come thanks to Bam Adebayo’s record breaking 83-point performance. The Heat took the win in Miami with a final score of 150-129. The Heat were shorthanded without two of their top scorers, Tyler Herro and Norman Powell. Kelel Ware was also out, which boosted Adebayo’s importance on the court. On the other hand, the Wizards also played shortheaded without their all-star point guard, Trae Young and all-star center, Anthony Davis.

From the opening jump, you could tell Bam Adebayo was going to make his mark on this game, and the Wizards had no answers for him. He had the Heat’s first seven points and 25 of their first 29. He ended the first quarter with 31 points and finished the half with 43. Bam had 70 points with 9 minutes left, so he made sure to go after Kobe’s 81-point record. This shows his determination to truly make history. He finished the game with 83 points passing Kobe Bryant for the second most points in NBA history. Out of the 83 points, he made 36 free throws and 7 three-pointers. Overall, a historic performance from Bam.

On the other end, Alex Sarr was doing his best to keep the Wizards in the game. This second-year center from France, managed to put up 28 points on 12 for 19 shooting, which is impressive considering he was tasked with guarding Adebayo on the other end. Another top scorer was Will Riley with 22 points. The Wizards did not provide Sarr and Riley with much support while turning the ball over 24 times, leading to 31 Miami points. As the game was clearly out of reach and Adebayo’s eyes set on Kobe’s record, the Wizards did their best to stop Bam by trying to dribble the clock out and intentionally fouling his teammates to prevent him from making history.
This outcome can be considered good for both teams. For the Heat, it extended their winning streak to 6 games and kept them in the race for a playoff spot in the crowded Eastern Conference. However, the Wizards may benefit from this loss because it puts them in a better position for the number one pick in this June’s draft, which has a strong class.
